Kirkland Bordeaux Supérieur 2022
At $6.99 this is something I pick up quite often from costco, and I always have a bottle or two lying around. On the nose I got plum and chocolate, along with a bit of leather. The taste was mainly blackberries, which lead into anise/black licorice, and an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. I recommend leaving it to air out for quite a while though (an hour or more), the blackberry will fade into softer rasberry, and the bitterness will fade into oak/pine. I had the other half the bottle the next day and it was even better having sat overnight.
Overall this is a good bottle to try if you want something other than California Reds, as its a decent example of Bordeaux, and will introduce you to the style. Old world wines tend to have more mineral notes to them than New World, and while it might not be as fruity as an inexpensive California Cabernet, I find it more interesting. Just don't get put off if its harsh straight out of the bottle.
I plan to keep one and forget about it for 4-5 years and see if its better aged. If so I'll revisit it then....
