Borreo Single Vinyard Sangiovese 2019
I have no recollection of where this came from. Cost is based on an online search. I seem to have a lot of wines with a mysterious origin.
Nose was cherry, twizzers (the waxy candy).
Taste was cherry, anise, black licorice, tobacco. Medium bodied, heavy tannin, but sweeter than you might expect. Floral and Herbal notes matured when I had the rest of the bottle on the following day. Overall a pretty decent sangiovese. It's a 2019 so its had time to mature, I'm not sure aging it longer would do much to improve it.
The label tells a bit of a confusing story, about the winery burning down in 2017, and this wine is a tribute. Not sure if this wine is actually from Borreo, or they just used the name. Doesn't really matter to me as I'd never heard of Borreo, and this wine is pretty good on its own merits.
Read an article in Noble Rot recently about how difficult it is to make good TV about wine. So much of wine is in the moment, the food you eat it with, the people you drink it around. Its hard to quantify. Also I think you know instantly whether a wine is good or bad, and much of the language around wine is a way to try and quantify something that may not be quantifiable.
Anyway, this one is pretty good!
