I have no recollection of when I bought this, but decided to give it a try. It's not immediately clear on the bottle, but the winery is owned by Lous Jadot, which is a huge French wine producer. I had it with some rye bread, camembert, and slightly spicy cured meat.

Nose was a little funky at first sniff, earthy fungal notes. Berry, Chocolate spice. Flavor was tart berry, ripe plum, tart berry, ripe plum, good tannins, medium to full bodied. Happy with it. As it has time to breathe it gets silkier, and tastes a little sweeter.

Wine flavor is kind of funny, if you focus on one bit of it you can pick out an individual flavor. Sort of like how you can focus on a band and just hear the guitar or base. I kept experiencing new flavors with this one, especially as it started to breathe. I think this one had more life in it though, I kind of wish I'd left it alone for another 5-10 years. Thats the thing with wine though, you never know until you drink it. I need to get better at buying multiple bottles and saving some of them.

I do love gamay, though normally I have it in Beaujolais Nouveau. This is the first time (that I can remember) where I've had a vintage that's had time to mature. I'd love to do a side by side tasting between a wine similar to this and a Nouveau.

Overall this was a great wine, really tasty, no off flavors or anything disappointing about it. It's just lacking a certain something to push it into a truly exceptional tier.
