Based on the bottle this wine spent five years in oak barrels, then finally bottled, where it sat another few years before finally getting to me.

You can taste it. The wine is good, but feels a little 'thin' and all I'm really left with is strong plum/berry flavors that lack any real complexity. Though it also lacks the liveliness of a younger, brighter wine. I had it with cheese and some bread, but its possible some more savory foods or red meat might bring more life from it. I'm currently having the last glass as I write this and it's suprising to me how little of an Oak or Tannin taste there is to something that sat in barrels for 5 years. That's less than some Scotch!

Still though, I picked it up for 11.97 at costco, and for that price its perfectly agreeable. I bought two bottles, and I think I better drink the second soon as well, as more time aging is not going to do it any favors.

NatScore: 3.5/5 Notable — Better than average and an interesting wine at an affordable price (if you can get it for 11.97)
